The ancient city of Dara is located in Oğuz Village, 30 kilometers southeast of Mardin. Dara, one of the most important settlements of Mesopotamia, dates back to the year 505 by the work of the Emperor Anastasius (491-518) as a military insignia garrison city to defend the eastern border of the Eastern Roman Empire against the Sasanis. The Dara Antique City, which consists of reyilian structures and is scattered over a wide area, defended the area around 4 kilometers. The inner fort is located on the north of the city and on the top of the 50-meter-high hill. The church, palace, bazaar, dungeon, armory and ruins of the city can be seen in the city. In the surrounding area, cave houses dating back to the Late Roman Period can be found.
