DİYARBAKIR ULU MOSQUE

The Great Mosque in Diyarbakır is one of the oldest historical values ​​of Anatolia. The mosque was built in 639 in the center of the city, where Martoma Church is the biggest temple in the center of the city. After that, in 1091, the Great Seljuk ruler Melikşah'ı has seen a great restoration. The Grand Mosque has become its current state with the renovations and repairs it has seen in various periods.

The Great Seljuk ruler Melikşah, Nisanoğulları and İnal, the Anatolian Seljuk ruler Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev, Akkoyunlu ruler Uzun Hasan, Artuklular and most of the Ottoman sultans are located in various places of the mosque.

The Grand Mosque of Diyarbakır, considered to be the reflection of the famous Islamic period of Damascus, Umayyad Mosque to Anatolia, was accepted as the 5th Harem-i Sharif by the Islamic world. In the facades of Diyarbakır Ulu Mosque facing the courtyard, the architectural decorations, reliefs and inscriptions of different periods make the mosque stand out in a regular manner.

Ulu Mosque, which is used as a center of worship in every period of history, is the largest group of buildings in Diyarbakır. The two mosques of this building (the Hanafis and the Chance Division), two madrasahs (Zinciriye and Mesudiye), the east-west minaret, the temple, the ablution parts are composed of a large rectangular courtyard in the middle of this complex. Entrance to the mosque takes place in three different places. The door on the east side is called the main (crown) door.
