DİYARBAKIR ARCHEOLOGY MUSEUM

The first museum in Diyarbakir was opened in 1934 at the Zinciriye (Senceriye) Madrasa near the Ulu Mosque. In 1985, it moved to its current building on Elazığ Street and was put into service of the public in 1993.

Museum; excavations and acquisitions and confiscations in the region; It has a rich collection from the Early Bronze Age, Urartu, Assyrian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, Akkoyunlu and Ottoman Periods, as well as coins of Artukid period with Amida and ethnographic works. As well as the excavations in Çayönü, Hallançemi, the excavations carried out under the direction of the museum within the scope of the Ilısu Dam rescue excavations since 2000 have yielded very important information related to the history of humanity and this has brought our museum to a privileged position. A total of 29270 inventory works are registered in the museum collection.
